JFOODO's "Sake: Escape The Ordinary" Storyboards 🍢

So, I had a lot of things on the agenda today. Much of which was abandoned and so I only did one thing. Animation. Possibly a venture. But will see how I feel about it next week. So the rest of my day pretty much watching Clone Wars and think Ahsoka is such a dope character and how Lucasfilm can get this right but not the trilogy. Character growth, for Christ sakes.

And talking about 'sake', this went live yesterday – my work on JFOODO's "Sake: Escape The Ordinary" campaign. Did you like my segue? And as a guy that only had sake when he went to a noodle bar in Central London, it went down a treat. However, thinking of a drink like that but in a more 'contemporary' sense of being enjoyed with, let's say seafood that isn't necessarily Japanese was never something I thought about doing until now. Nobody puts baby in a box.

Done via Mr. White, I storyboarded the brand film which turned out pretty decent. I think a toast or three is in order. Kanpai!

The Johnnie Walker Whiskey you can't refuse... πŸ₯ƒ

Contrary to everyone using my neighborhood park as a watering hole to get drunk off wine and East European imported beer, it has been a pretty sobering experience in the ol' Batcave. Nevertheless, what would be the point if we couldn't at least think about pouring ourselves a nice drink for the toast to life? Godfather anyone?

I spoke about this in an earlier post, but I thought I'd do a side by side promo/storyboards as its gotten a lot of positive feedback and contact.

Mondoro "Beautiful Elevation" Storyboards πŸ₯‚πŸΎ

Technically, I've been just a little less busy than usual, though most of my busy has been a 'paid' busy. Now quarantine has people thinking they can approach me like its Credit Crunch / 2009 again. Not cool, bro. My family also eats food that requires money. Who'd have thunk?

In any case, I did forget to flog this up on me blogs. I did another one of those storyboards/ad comparisons. This one I did for Mondoro via Mr. White. So if you like your sparkling wine and Italian architecture, then you should get a kick out of this brand film.

Had recently put this up on the Insta (am I that guy now? [nah, I'm still vanity, filter free, so there is that...]). So thought I might as well share on here. A side-by-side storyboard comparison with the Starling Bank ad I worked on.

Done via Ekstasy with VFX by Glassworks.

Assembly for Dummies ⛺

2020 has been a slow burner. Understandably, creative types oft get this at the beginning of the year. Everyone is just about now starting to perform at optimum efficiency, getting on top of lingering projects, chasing leads and answering emails.

So a few projects, mainly in the ad department. So thought I'd share a random unused frame. What ever could they be attempting to build? A source of clean energy? Skynet? An ergonomic enema machine? Are the instructions in German?

Check out the storyboard frame:

Run them Infinity Jewels and get this hot data blast

This week was not as busy, but still managed to get a few projects off. More work tomorrow. Such is life. Plus conjuring up some designs for a product. It's pretty out there. Not really, but it could take you to proverbial space. Lol. More on that some other time. Check out a concept art idea I started for a client that didn't get used. I stopped halfway through, obviously. Change of direction. Check it out!

Anyone saw Infinity War yet? Not sure if I feel entirely inspired to write a TAP Review on TheActionPixel.com. But hey, one of those things you have to put work in even when you not in top shape.

Hey people. Recent storyboards I did for a promo vid for Johnnie Walker. How to mix a Godfather drink 🍹. Real easy if you have like three hands. Also did other versions (Old Fashioned I believe). Via Hangar Seven.

Check out the end result. Pretty suave.

Minx, Ant-Man and The Wasp, and Honey + Lemon

Have you guys seen the Ant-Man And The Wasp trailer! Absolutely banging! But how the do Paul Rudd like that? Can you imagine him with wings? Nah, me neither. Not exactly the most graceful. If you haven't seen it you should check it out: https://www.theactionpixel.com/comics/marvel-studios-ant-man-and-the-wasp-official-trailer/

But thought I'd share a late quick design I did for @Minx4Music

Good stuff.

Sum up,
Recovering from a flu-filled January. Okay universe, nice one bro. A few bees and lemon trees had to work overtime to produce what I consumed this month to soothe my symptoms. Wouldn't wish that on anybody. Bleh.

It's been a shitty few days. Nothing that can't be overcome I guess. Just a lot of hemorrhaging and misdirection and dealing with quitters. But on the plus side, I made this sketch. Well, making. Tentacle porn.  Nah, although tentacles are present. Think I'll make it part of the TAP t-shirt design. Will update when I've added some lines and colour.

Inspired mainly by the fantasy artwork you find gracing the cover of Conan back in the day. Oh, and did you guys know Conan is back at Marvel come next year?! Pretty awesome news. But we digress.

Who know repetitively drawing those suction cups would be so tasking. But that's where I am at currently. And if my ass would stop getting distracted I'd have probably finished already. But I am currently battling the YouTube wormhole and dealing with adult disappointment. Whoa is me. Nah, I'm alright. Thanks for asking.

Til then...

Order's up Storyboard frames

Did some story art a while back for a pitch on a  food ad. Can't remember the brand. But it didn't get the go ahead with the director. But thought I'd share a few of the frames anyway.

It's always a challenge to work as fast as possible but to keep an image's form and make it look interesting. Something that gets difficult especially if you weigh yourself down by thinking how much you have to get through and changes are being made repeatedly. But it helps to do scamps and get stuff signed off on just so everyone's on the right page.

Lesson for you boarders. Scamps my seem like extra drawing, but it'll make your work so much easier as you've broken the complexity of structure down without dedicating to much time in details.

What do you guys think of the images. Let me know in the comment section.

Sum up,
You're all cordially invited when the hard drive comes. I'm pissed off as it is, but I'll hold my tongue.

Think Small. Wish big.

Remember those 2 Talenthouse competitions I entered. Didn't win. Not a surprise in all honesty. Save for a few that made the last round that had me genuinely scratching my head. But thought I would share on here one of the last entries to the Downsizing comp.

Just a low angle of woman dwarfed by towering Dandelions. May go and see it in the cinema soon. I have one of those "see any film anytime" cards, otherwise I doubt I'd go out of my way.

Check it:

What you guys think? Tried my best to go vibrant with it. Could you just imagine your social media feed when a friend decides Downsizing is the way to go? It'd be like having that friend that watched a documentary and then decided to go Vegan, or that one person that took a gap year to half build a hut and all of a sudden they think they are Mother Theresa.

Sum up,
Sabotage. Say it like Bugs Bunny.

Honey I Shrunk the Kids: Backyard Camping out edition

I was working on a few things last weekend, and the Downsizing movie competition on Talenthouse got me thinking about what the world would be like if people were 5 inches taller. Well, if human nature has taught me anything, any invention that can't be weaponised is sexualised, so you can only imagine the 'giantess' category on Pornhub would likely grow considerably.

Yeah, anywho, I thought about how one's backyard would instantly become a Safari with a simple shift in perspective, and imagined a family interacting with nature on a whole new plain.

And a quick sketch and digital render later, came up with this:

Downsizing – Backyard Camping. Artwork by Dulani Wilson (@bluntspear)
 Check it out on Talenthouse!

Humongous marshmallows. Campfire by a matchstick. That guy with a guitar that only knows one chord. Death ladybug waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Good Stuff.

Evil Comes Home – "Insidious: The Last Key" Poster Art 2.5

Entered the Insidious: The Last Key via Talenthouse (as you know) so thought I would share another entry, although I doubt they will qualify as I used the reference images in the design. But thought I'd share 'em anyways.

I had a rethink and did another design using some of the elements I created from scratch here; I'll share that another time.

"Insidious: The Last Key" Concept Poster 2

Remember that Insidious concept poster art I shared with you lovely people? Of course you do. That was the first of few.

The second I'm about to share was the first one I attempted. Saw the Texas Chainsaw Massacre poster and how simple and text orientated it was. Not saying I succeeded with this one but I found the idea of the white space appealing for some reason.

Bringing out and Cleaning the ol' painting skills like a rusty .22

It's been a while since I even laid eyes on a piece of canvas. So you can only imagine how awkward it was to start painting again. But nonetheless, I am at this very moment buying acrylics.

Started by setting up some tonal background before sketching my subject:

And I know my art teacher said to avoid using black in paintings but I guess I'll be breaking rules in this here shopping list when I buy 500ml worth of the stuff. Blacker the berry, baby...

Current situation:

Will update more when I get through to it, hombres!

Sum up,
It's been a long week. Has anyone seen Terminator 2 in 3D? Greatest Sci-Fi ever! Plus anyone have any tips of painting with acrylic do let me know.

Minxing things up

Forgot to drop this one. Recently did some design work for artiste Minx. Known here for a while now and she's doing big things touring and all the shebang and she needed some stickers designed to further promote her brand.

Did a preliminary sketch based on what she was after and moved from there:

bluntspear, minx, design, design tyrant, redhead, sex, hoop earrings, sticker, minx 4 music, dulani wilson, bluntspear.com
© 2017. Artwork by Dulani Wilson / bluntspear.com. All rights reserved to respective owners.

From there, it was a few tweaks:
bluntspear, minx, design, design tyrant, redhead, sex, hoop earrings, sticker, minx 4 music, dulani wilson, bluntspear.com
© 2017. Artwork by Dulani Wilson / bluntspear.com. All rights reserved to respective owners.

And voila! End result:

Turned out well, me thinks. Be sure to check out the lovely lady and her music. Has a song with the Mr. MFN Exquire. Nice.

Sum up,
More design for TAP this week. Will share. Promise πŸ––.

Here's my card...

It's about that time once again. Well, once every what, 9 - 10 years. Never been the one to do a massive amount of business cards. As it turns out, most of my work comes from word of mouth. But sometimes you got to X-Men Gambit-it up with some pristine business cards.

© 2017 Dulani Wilson / bluntspear.com. All rights reserved.
Got these printed at printed.com, which was Goodprint back in the day, and they never fail to get the job done right. One card misprint, but otherwise quality is great.

Designed this recently with all my social media and new portfolio website. At the moment still adding stuff to the websites re: storyboard works but all in all been busy working on a few stuff for People In Motion – a charity that's doing massive things at the moment in the field of athletics, movement and sports. Hold tight for that.

But for now, I am currently trying to get some ideas down for new T-Shirts for TheActionPixel.com + TheActionPixel.store, as I may have found a new supplier that I can actually depend on. Because god knows after the month I've had, I need people in my circle to be held to some goddamn accountability for their ghastly shortcomings. And that's putting it kindly.

Sum up,
Hem Tag, I'm it.

Guess who's back...

Hey, dudes and dudettes! Thought it best to dust off the ol' blog, let the people of the interweb know what the Due's been up to. at the moment, well... Not a whole lot. Well from the usual corporate, looking for follow-up projects, tying up loose end personal projects. Whoa is the life of the freelance.

starting circa tomorrow will be posting more, including so stuff I'm currently working on for a sports charity, plus what's happening with The Action Pixel brand - especially the blog and the store✌🏿️!

Til next time.

Sum up,
