This is only the beginning.

Prepare for war.
A common phrase of the independent creative it seems. Another forced hiatus from posting on here, but I am on the verge of launching a platform that has been a key focus of late. Also doing the odd story art job and animation.... or at least working up to it.

Re: Festival front, got Merchants Of Quietus and Red Man in the Portobello Film Festival 2014, with Red Man being nominated for best animation. More news still on Red Man coming soon too.

So. It has been a relatively busy few weeks.
But will be diligent and start religiously posting stuff on here.

Sum up,

Red Man: Top 10 at Loch Ness Festival in Huffington Post review

Superb news on Red Man, the motion comic / 2D animation I made earlier this year. Been quite busy storyboarding and filming an online web series so didn't have time to post this. But Red Man made it as one of the top 10 film shorts to go and see at the Loch Ness Film Festival 2014!

I want to go to there. Awesome  stuff, you can read it all here in the Huffington Post .... post. Here:

Redman. It comes.

Redman. Defiant. Tragic. Claiming kinghood the old fashioned way. Through blood, menage and might.

Working some more on frames in my a short animation based on Macbeth. Yeah that one. My on and off projects for years now, but it's coming together. I swear. Thought I'd share a frame I just did:

Red Man Animation Edit Test

Behold, ye mighty people. Did a little Edit test of Red Man and currently redoing some elements. Well, most elements. Not most, but a lot. So working on that now. What do you think?

Sum up,
Could this be my undoing... mentally I mean.

When work trickles rather than pours on...

...is annoying but you know its a prelude of good things to come. Yesterday, I met up with my brother in arms Remi King to start the edit for the Stak video. Might need to get more area shots but the initial edit is on its way and its looking very promising. Also will be putting my hands into the motion graphics pot. The Red Man animation I have been working on has had me using tools I usually don't using in AE. Which is a good thing. Thats what happens when you are self taught. If you have found a way of doing something, your not quite eager to learn much else. But once the learning process is carried, usually through forced necessity, you remember exactly why you love what you do. It's weird I know. I think its the bad 3D nightmares of old that left me frustrated after hours of modelling, rendering and double vision.

Red Man is coming along. Slowly. Exported a few animated clips and about to put them on the timeline. See how it all looks. Here are some illustrations/framework I've done in the past week. I know I said I wouldn't post anything Red Man related until I got a bulk of it done, but I've been so diligent, I don't think posting one or two things will mess with my work feng shui. Simple ish:

Also been working on a logo for music group 'Heroine Highrise'. First logo, was ok, but too funky.

Second one's not done, still working on it. Need to get my ass in gear. As it stands:

Yeah, I know, get to work punk!
 'Til then super-friends...

Sum up,
Got an unexpected text. Now I am amped. Back on my Ronin ish!

Dissent into Hell

Dante, the crusades, the 9 levels of hell, not something I enjoy reading about or watching adaptations of. The concept of the Italian poems really is unnerving. It's ugly, but of course the thanatos in me always peaks my interest. Based on the vid game Dante's Inferno, EA did a series of animations (anime of course). Something about falling, lack of control, screams of terror w/dopler effect. But the sentiment "good intentions pave the roads to hell" and the long standing evils of Anglo-hegemonies is something that I can appreciate. Religosity adds a more relevant twist especially today, as Islam extremism, the Brotherhood, or whatever the BBC is calling it has replaced Christianity and the Propaganda wing of the Roman Catholic Sect as the dominant ideology hellbent on converting heathens through violence.

Segue to my illustrations of Redman. Been doing the frames for a whimsical scene where he falls after his crown. Pretty cool, decided to go with a black, white and red palette. This is a frame I'm currently working on.

Mat H. will be proud. The project's been through so much starting and stopping I thought I'd never get it off to a start.

I wanted this sequence to be intense and violent as his fall into darkness signifes his state of mind, fearless, desperate. He falls to catch his crown, symbolic of his desperate gripe for power and sovereignty of a luster-lack kingship.

It's coming on well. Also looking to get an anthology done that I have been sitting on for the past 4 years. Busy Busy.

Sum up,
Fall for me and I will teach you how to rise with me.

By Crom!

I grew up on stuff like this. But as a young dude I never took care of my comics. Coloured in them. got torn. Lost. Re-found with the first 5 pages missing. Lost again. But with the remainder of what I had when I got older I really appreciated the art and literature. Even young back then when you'd think I'd gravitate towards books with colour, the black and white draftsmanship did more for me than any other book could. So sometime ago, I went on ebay and got some of The Savage Sword of Conan catalogue and geeked out. Well worth the dineros. But I have to say, I didn't remember Conan being so racially charged. The sexism, yeah that's a given. Disdain for sorcery and witchery- sure.  I guess its why they took a page from MAD and published themselves as a magazine rather that publish under the thumb of the Comic Code of Conduct. Creative bigoted bastards.

But with all that said, I'm back on the theme of sword play and this time things are gonna get done on Redman. Not to say I didnt make progress on it the last time I was chipping away at it... about a third of it is pencilled out. Just working on the other 2/3,

Sum up,
1000 years of success. I wish. On you. Friends. By Crom.

Under the flesh, pass the muscle and blood...

Skeleton. Roughing out lots of key frames and inbetweens for the animation. Kept my head down for a couple of weeks and came back up to see I had sketched out a little over a third of the action. It's the dance that's most tedious. Plus got my Bamboo graphics tablet so I'll be seeing how it fares.

"Behold (not really) and I'll make you a believer".

It's gotten all sinister in here. Feel my steely hate.

Sum up,
Yeah well, still waiting on those headphones. And pancakes with syrup...

And just as I was typing this, got my Sakura pens from Hong Kong delivered to me. Hong Kong, dude! And they delivered in record time. Shape up, people!

Tyger, Tyger Burning Blunts

Throwback moment. At the risk of showing you an ugly piece of my soul that would make you shudder and cringe away from me, got a few poems published in Fire No. 32, received it months a while back.

Only now I took it up. And I realised, a lot of English poems are either thinly veiled sex acts or denotative prose broken into stanzas. Well, the anthology itself is a bit underground, but I guess thats the only way to go really. Who the hell in England would publish them anyways? My name is Dulani, I'm a Jamaican speaking about the Afrikan Diaspora. Now if my name was John Worthington talking about Meadows with reference to William Blake Blossoms and Sylvia Plath's failed suicide attempts, I'd be f***ing famous. Like imitation burberry in Maidstone. Come to think of it, most of my poems were writtien on the train while travelling to university in Maidstone. That is why they are 99.5% depressing. Travelling to hell all willy nilly. Hope the images are clear. Too lazy to scan and crop. Read then leave your comments/curses.

Got some images/sketches from Red Man, keyframes and such. Show you guys tomorrow. Got me a frigging Bamboo Graphics Tablet. About time. About to get into another project, some guys that like great things done in a week so they can enter a festival ... we'll see. Plus ended doing title/credit sequences for Sweet. Remi's finishing that up this week. Plus gearing up for a meeting with the Taylor dude, green light on the mv's. My (Grand) Aunt's here from Florida, and she brought a rahtid mango, big as me bloodfire head. You know you're home sick when eat a mango and close your eyes and have a flashback. England and your inhospitable weather/people. Other than that, I'm not busy.

Plus Inception got the gears turning and I am putting together a script looking at the power of the mind, albeit to forget. And thanks to Cameron's ConDem Party, I am doing it without permits. (extends middle finger to all the politicians [oh, and  read the poem "Politician"]).

Where the hell have you been?

Currently working on my website (hella long overdue). The assets almost half done. Need to do some HTML sorcery. Fu, you'll be up next. Spent the last couple weeks designing auxillary material for my sister's business....business cards, website, flyers, email signature etc. etc.

Still working on Red Man ...definitely will give you guys a preview...but i want to get most of the frames done so I can do the pencil test all at once, nah mean? Plus got few interesting calls, one from SYM, startup company that needs a creative edge. Plus I could be a part of a music video that will be happening soon, destined for the silver screen (if you will). I'll keep my head down till then.

Sum up,

Keep busy. And where is Paypal with my headphones?

Redman Still

Kinda putting in overtime, so not much time to spend online. Despite the respite, from blogging that enlight(ens), i will post images for you to see, so hold back grimaces.

This is the Red Man. Called so for many reasons. The English hate 'gingers' it seems. So who better to bring about the demise of the pork men? I had another still... a crown falling into the abyss, but silly me, the file got corrupted.

Currently working on animation titles i know i promised to show today, but yesterday...ah f*** it, I am tired. Gtg people.

Sum,
Loving my internal rhyme display. Pay Homage hommes.

Bloody Red Dead Man, Let's get it in!

"I dare do all that may become a man; Who dares do more is none"

Always was a fan of the play Macbeth (even if it is a 'Shakespearian' play). So an idea for making a short animation has been churning in my head for over a year now. So (on and off) iive been putting together storyboards and animatics, reworking the idea twice (serves me right for not meshing out a script first).
What got me about Macbeth when I came across it in my studies in Ja. it wasnt like the others..it was the first 'tragedy' I came across, and when you surpass the language barrier, it becomes a gruesome tale of ambition and the callous pursuit of greatness. Yes, I am a Scarface fan.

Red Man, the title of the animation I'm doing really came about after watching a documentary of Scotland and reading about the true King Macbeth. What became apparent was:

  1. Scotland has always been a country that has desparately tried to ferment their independence from foreign king and rule, battling corruption from tyrannous home bred kings and traitors to France and England.

  2. King Macbeth, by all appearances was an ok king. No witches, no scandals. None.

So obviously Shakespearian Macbeth is just English propaganda, xenophobia and Anglophilia all molded into one.

So my film will be a twist on the Shakespearian play, but remaining within the play's paradigm. It focuses on Macbeth's last hours and gives an alternative interpretation of why he committed regicide and took the throne. Patriotic, crimson defiance all around.

Plus I always believed Macbeth's greatest flaw was never being overly-ambitious, but being superstitious. I got through fully animating two scenes and it looks cool. I'll get some screen shots up here soon.

Sum up,
Words to live by: "There 's daggers in men's smiles".
